AI Agent Readiness Assessment

Your team has been kicking around the idea of bringing AI agents into the workflow for months now. Maybe a stakeholder asked. Maybe a competitor shipped something flashy. The honest answer to the readiness question isn't a yes or no — it's a checklist of operational questions most people skip past.

This assessment walks you through the things that actually matter before you write a single prompt or sign a vendor contract: data hygiene, who owns the output when something goes wrong, how brittle your existing processes are, whether anyone on staff knows how to evaluate model output, and what failure modes you can tolerate. The score isn't graded on a curve.

The questions cluster into five buckets. Data: do you have a clean source of truth the agent can read, or is your knowledge spread across Notion, three Google Drives, and someone's brain? Process: are the workflows the agent will touch documented well enough that you could hand them to a new hire, or is everyone doing it slightly differently? Evaluation: when the agent produces output, who reads it, and what does "correct" look like for that output? Governance: when an agent does something embarrassing or wrong — and it will — who owns the fallout and what's the rollback plan? People: is anyone on the team comfortable enough with model behavior to debug bad outputs without resorting to "the AI is wrong"?

A worked example helps. You score 6 out of 10. The breakdown shows you nailed the data and people questions but bombed the evaluation and governance ones. That's a clear signal to spend the next two weeks defining what "good output" looks like for the specific task you want the agent to handle, and to write down a simple rollback procedure before piloting anything. The score isn't telling you to abandon the project — it's telling you which homework you skipped.

Where this assessment falls short: it can't see your specific industry, regulatory environment, or the politics of your org. A high score on paper still doesn't help you if your legal team has unresolved concerns about data residency. Use it as a conversation starter with leadership, not a verdict.
